KUALA LUMPUR – A police report has been lodged over the government’s alleged failure to resolve the Covid-19 crisis.

Tham Wai Yuen filed the report at the Dang Wangi police headquarters here this afternoon, asking the authorities to take action to stop the country from slipping into greater turmoil.

The 47-year-old, who claims to have made the report as a regular citizen with no post in any organisation, said Putrajaya has fallen short in ensuring the people’s well-being during the pandemic.

“The people have been locked up under the FMCO (full movement control order) for over a month, but the government still cannot control infections, which are increasing, and with more people dying,” he told reporters outside the police station after lodging his report.

There are more people taking their own lives due to pressures arising from the pandemic, or facing fines because of ever-changing SOPs. And, all business operators are at a loss on what to do as there is no direction.”

Earlier today, Tham was seen outside Istana Negara with members of a coalition of civil society groups, called Gabungan Bertindak Memorandum Rakyat Malaysia, who submitted a memorandum calling for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation by Friday.

The government should function as the rakyat’s carer, but politicians are constantly jostling for power, he said.

“We have a menteri besar who test-drove a car, (an MP) who attended a durian fest and another getting married online, while another ‘ikat perut’ (underwent bariatric surgery).

“The people have also been lied to by the prime minister, who has different names, and who failed to prevent his own ministers from violating the SOPs.”

Tham asked for a change of government, saying Perikatan Nasional failed thrice to heed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s repeated advice to convene Parliament.

My child cannot go to school for more than a year, but there is a (former) minister who can send his to study in France. So, what is the luck of the people? Who will voice out for them? We are all pressured by the pandemic.”

Although the coronavirus crisis “came from Allah”, it is a test of the government’s ability to take care of the people and country, he said.

“We are faced with financial strain and a lack of direction. Companies are shutting down as their situation is unstable.

“We also need to know the plans to vaccinate irregular migrants. Until now, we have not received any news on their vaccination.” – The Vibes, July 14, 2021
