KUALA LUMPUR – The Seberang Prai prison and its adjacent quarters in the Seberang Prai Selatan district will undergo a two-week enhanced movement control order (EMCO) starting tomorrow until November 4.

The decision, said Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, was done to better facilitate the government’s targeted Covid-19 screening that will be done there.

“It will involve 3,260 individuals. The inmates will be separated and quarantined at another the Seberang Prai Mara Excellence Institute until their quarantine period ends,” said Ismail.

Of the 3,260, 2,110 are inmates, 1,000 are quartered staff and their family members, 120 are prison and quarters staff and 32 are civil servants.

Ismail also announced another EMCO order for residents of Taman Harmoni Public Housing Program (PPR) in Sandakan starting this Friday until November 5.

This EMCO will involve 870 houses and 4,481 residents where none of them can leave their house unless there is an emergency or death.

“The Ministry of Health will do targeted screening whereas food supplies will be distributed by the Sabah state government,” he said at his daily Covid-19 update. – The Vibes, October 21, 2020
