SEMPORNA – A woman suffered injuries on the face and body after being beaten up and robbed by a man she had just befriended a couple of days earlier.
According to Semporna police chief Mohd Farhan Abdullah, the 40-year-old dishwasher was found lying on the Kuala Bebang road by passers-by at around 6.50am yesterday.
The victim who is now receiving treatment at the local hospital claimed she was hit with a helmet until she fell unconscious, he said.
“Her handbag, which contained her documents, handphone, and RM500 in cash were also stolen from her.
“According to her, the suspect had given her a ride on a motorcycle before the incident happened,” he said
The case is now being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum of 20 years’ jail, a fine, and caning.
61 people arrested for power theft
Meanwhile, 61 individuals from Kg Bawang in Kolombong in Kota Kinabalu have been arrested for being involved in power theft.
They include three men believed to be the masterminds of the illegal power connection, Kota Kinabalu police chief Zaidi Abdullah said last night.
The arrests were made in a joint operation between police and state utility company Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd from 5am to 11am yesterday.
Zaidi said the suspects involved 39 men and 22 women aged between 16 and 60 years.
“Also seized were electric cables weighing 30kg used to make the illegal power connections,” he said.
Zaidi said the three masterminds who asked for payment for the illegal connections used a hook-shaped piece of metal hung on the power source to get power supplies.
“Wires and cables hung dangerously in the settlement where the power thieves were living. More worryingly, some of the wires were hanging in places where there was water,” he said.
The case is now being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code and Section 37 of the Power Supply Act 1990. – The Vibes, July 31, 2021
