KUALA LUMPUR – Five groups have arrived at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters today to file a report against the #Lawan protest last Saturday.

The groups are Persatuan Anak Muda Johor, Gabungan NGO 1 Malaysia, Pertubuhan Sosial dan Minda Prihatin, Dewan Perundingan NGO and Pertubuhan Salam Budi.

Lawyer Kamarudin Ahmad, representing the groups, told reporters that the #Lawan protest violated National Recovery Plan (NRP) standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“The #Lawan participants violated SOPs. They gathered without any social distancing, risking a potential Covid-19 cluster.

“We are also disappointed with Suaram and Suhakan, which remained silent when protesters flouted SOPs,” said Kamarudin.

Muda co-founder Mathen Nair, who was also present at the police headquarters today, questioned the lawyer on whether the groups will also lodge reports against ministers who have flouted the NRP SOPs.

Kamarudin replied that he believes the police will take any action against those who violate laws, regardless of their position.

On the gathering by opposition MPs who attempted to march to Parliament this morning, Kamaruddin said their gathering could also be deemed illegal. – The Vibes, August 2, 2021
