KUALA LUMPUR – PAS is said to be holding an urgent meeting tonight after the Umno Supreme Council resoundingly agreed to fully withdraw support for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.
According to an Utusan Malaysia report, PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the party will make further decisions after the meeting.
Tuan Ibrahim reportedly said his party is in the process of discussing the matter and confirmed that PAS had not received the list of Umno members who have pulled their support, said to be a majority.
“After getting the list and determining that the majority of Umno has withdrawn their support, we will then make a decision based on that matter.
“We will make our own stand on the party’s support for the head of the government. The decision will be made according to the current situation,” the environment and water minister was quoted as saying.
Earlier, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had said the Supreme Council has agreed to no longer defend Muhyiddin and his government following their “failure” to table and vote on emergency ordinances before August 1, as decreed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Zahid added that he has enough statutory declarations from among his party’s MPs to see to the PN administration’s collapse.
Prior to the announcement, Umno’s Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah had resigned as energy and natural resources minister.
Shamsul had said he decided to quit after taking into consideration his party’s decisions.
After Shamsul’s resignation, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan hinted that more ministers from Umno would tender their resignations within the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, Umno ministers have yet to respond to the allegations and are believed to be continuing their respective duties.
An aide to National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Mohd Sadique said the Kota Tinggi MP is still working and conducting meetings as usual.
“The people’s agenda goes beyond political interests,” the aide said.
According to aides of Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad and Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, the ministers have not spoken about the matter yet.
Meanwhile, a flurry of activity was seen at Muhyiddin’s residence in Bukit Damansara earlier tonight.
According to reports, cars ferrying politicians were seen entering Muhyiddin’s private residence. – The Vibes, August 3, 2021
