Relaxed SOPs for fully vaxxed to be announced in next 2 days: Muhyiddin

MUAR – The relaxation of Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) for fully vaccinated people will be announced in a day or two, said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said the National Security Council (NSC) had looked into and given fair consideration to the proposed SOP relaxation.

“Maybe tomorrow or the day after, I will make the long-awaited announcement for those who have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

“We will announce concessions on things such as travelling interstate or inter-district and visiting parents or spouses for those in long-distance relationships,” he told reporters after visiting the Felda Lenga mobile vaccination centre in Pagoh here today.

He said the announcement would also include social matters such as dining in, sports, and recreational activities.

Muhyiddin also said the federal government is targeting to get at least 40% of Johor’s adult population inoculated by August 31 as it ramps up Covid-19 vaccination in the state.

He said he had directed National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba to look into the situation in Johor.

He said this was following Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s statement expressing disappointment over the relatively low vaccination rate in Johor.

“I can see that in Johor it is still low compared with some states which have reached 60% to 70%.

“The latest development is that the minister has held a meeting with the menteri besar, and it was said that at least 1.5 million doses will be sent to Johor,” he told reporters after visiting the Felda Lenga mobile vaccination centre in Pagoh near here today.

Tunku Mahkota of Johor Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim had yesterday also said the state’s vaccination rate should be increased to 70,000 doses a day so that herd immunity can be achieved earlier.

“The vaccination rate in Johor is now at 50,000 doses a day. However, the state’s Covid-19 infection rate is at an alarming level.

“Given this situation, I think the vaccination rate needs to be increased to 70,000 doses daily as soon as possible.” – Bernama, August 5, 2021
