MIRI – A pre-dawn fire that burnt down a mini mart in Limbang town in northern Sarawak, killed a woman who was trapped inside.

Three others in her family, said to be her husband and two daughters, managed to escape but one of the daughters suffered burns.

“The 2.30am fire took place at Yi Mart in Jalan Kubong, and we received an emergency alert a minute after,” said Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department in its report.

“Four people were inside the shoplot when it was on fire. Three of them escaped but a woman was trapped inside. Her remains were found after the fire was put out about 6am.”

The remains have been sent to the Limbang police.

Firefighters found that the mini mart had a lot of flammable items, in addition to sundry goods.

Gas cylinders and fuel were also sold there, the report said. – The Vibes, August 6, 2021
