PETALING JAYA – Opposition leaders will not be holding any major talks tonight, despite widespread reports that they are meeting to discuss a possible change in government, said a PKR leader.
PKR information chief Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said a meeting scheduled to take place at party headquarters here earlier this evening has been called off.
Instead, there are individual talks with the party leadership, and a statement will be issued on the matter soon, he added.
“We held some talks and will issue a statement about the people wanting a new leadership that is not made up of members from Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s government,” he told reporters, after leaving the office of PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim near Jalan Gasing here.

However, the Hang Tuah Jaya MP said he received news that former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has met Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, as the latter is seeking the former’s support for the top post in the country.
Earlier, some news portals reported that Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir was among political leaders who attended a meeting at the office of the opposition leader.
Other figures allegedly spotted at the same premises were Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
However, Shamsul Iskandar said the reports are untrue, adding that no such meeting took place.
The opposition is watching the matter closely as it anticipates a resignation from Muhyiddin tomorrow, he added, saying that “tomorrow is going to be a long day”. – The Vibes, August 15, 2021
