KUALA LUMPUR – Pejuang president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir has not dismissed the possibility of working with Perikatan Nasional (PN) – minus the Umno “court cluster” – to form the government or select a candidate for the prime minister’s post.
Speaking to Astro Awani in an interview today, the Jerlun MP said Pejuang does not mind supporting the PN coalition to ensure that the majority is achieved.
However, he stressed that Pejuang is at present more focused on giving its support to Pakatan Harapan (PH) to secure the majority needed to form the government with them.
“We hope that PH will be able to work it out and inform us that they have achieved the numbers. And, we will move forward from there,” he said.
He stressed that his party’s four MPs, including himself, are open to opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as candidates for the prime minister post, but would prioritise Anwar and Shafie.
“We remain with the principle to combat bribery and corruption. In that aspect, it becomes a problem for us if the majority that we are supporting contain what we define as the court cluster.
“This is an important factor in addition to what I have mentioned just now. This is our principle on the matter,” he said.
Muhkriz added that he hopes the political impasse will be resolved soon with a convincing majority being reached. – The Vibes, August 17, 2021
