KUALA LUMPUR – The Johor sultan has reminded the 779 teachers in the state who had rejected their Covid-19 vaccinations of the importance of being vaccinated for the country to achieve herd immunity.

In a statement on His Majesty’s official Facebook page today, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar said civil servants, including teachers, should not be doubting the importance of getting vaccinated to protect themselves, their families and their communities.

“Teachers should be setting an example for their students and protecting them, instead of placing students in danger, what more with schools expected to reopen soon. My family and I have completed our vaccination doses.

As I have said before, do not be easily swayed by anti-vaxxers. Trust our certified medical professionals.

“Those rejecting vaccination without any valid reason are just exposing themselves to the risk of being infected,” the ruler said.

“I hope all Johoreans will be vaccinated as soon as possible so we can return to our jobs, businesses and normal lives,’ Sultan Ibrahim added.

Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim yesterday said that he will meet almost 800 teachers over reports that they are refusing to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

On Twitter, Tunku Ismail said he will address the matter recently highlighted by Harian Metro.

“I will meet with the Johor education director and the teachers involved in the near future,” he said in a post.

“Our priority is to overcome this pandemic as soon as possible so that the people, state can return to and continue their normal lives.”

State Education, Information, Heritage and Culture Committee chairman Mazlan Bujang said yesterday that the Johor Education Department will provide more briefings to the teachers for better understanding on the benefits of vaccination. – The Vibes, August 23, 2021
