GEORGE TOWN – Investors have expressed concern about Malaysia’s political uncertainty, said Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, warning that continued turmoil will only hamper the recovery of the pandemic-battered economy.

He said he was at a factory belonging to a multinational corporation yesterday, and investors there shared their worry over the government’s bid to declare an emergency to contain the coronavirus.

If no firm action is taken to appease investors, he said, the national economy will lose whatever gains it has made since Covid-19 shutdowns crippled it this year.

“We need to be careful not to jeopardise what little good work we have done to mitigate the virus and revive the economy.

“Investors are concerned about the impact should an emergency be declared.”

This evening, Istana Negara issued a statement saying Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah believes there is no need to declare an emergency at this time, whether for the whole or parts of Malaysia. – The Vibes, October 25, 2020
