KUALA LUMPUR – Several Umno leaders have taken to social media to praise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decision to decline the government’s proposal to declare a state of emergency.
Echoing His Majesty’s recognition of the government’s handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan it is up to the Perikatan Nasional administration to work on what needs to be done in interpreting the royal decree.
“The decision should guide all quarters to come forward for the sake of national interest in standing with the government to battle this global pandemic,” Mohamad said in a Facebook post tonight.
“The wisdom of His Majesty has convinced me that the royal institution plays a very important constitutional role in the nation’s administration.”
On Twitter, Umno supreme council member Tan Sri Annuar Musa tonight thanked the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for having confidence in the current government in handling Covid-19.
“The effort needs to be improved even though there will be disruptions and political instability… (let’s) move forward,” said Annuar, who is also federal territories minister and Ketereh MP.
Meanwhile, Umno youth chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki had indicated the need to heed the Agong’s call for a political ceasefire amid the pandemic.
“Let us all focus on the (political) peace agenda and tackling the Covid-19 pandemic as well as resolve the issues of the people who are burdened by the worrying state of the economy," Asyraf said in a Facebook post.
“Umno youth, for the umpteenth time, has called for leaders from the government and opposition to immediately head to the negotiating table to set aside their differences and power tussle for the wellbeing of the people and to ensure national stability.” – The Vibes, October 25, 2020
