GEORGE TOWN – The Penang government hopes the new cabinet will give its full attention to the issue of tackling Covid-19 especially in states that have seen a surge in cases.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow expressed hope that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and his ministers will reach out to states and help resolve issues such as a lack of vaccines and medical facilities.

“No more time to wait. I hope the prime minister and the cabinet will take immediate and appropriate action to help control the situation,” he told the press after a medical equipment donation event at Komtar today.

Yesterday, Penang saw a staggering 2,078 infections with 33 deaths.

Meanwhile, the Kedah government has full confidence in Ismail Sabri and his cabinet’s ability to face the challenges posed by the pandemic and manage the economy efficiently.

Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor in a statement said the state government hopes that the “Keluarga Malaysia” cabinet will work hard to achieve the targets set by the prime minister.

“The Kedah government welcomes the appointment of the new ministers as announced by the prime minister.

“Congratulations and best wishes to all those appointed, ministers and deputy ministers, who, in our opinion, are balanced and have their respective expertise and experience.”

He said he hopes Putrajaya will prioritise ending the twin health and economic crises, as well as for the state and federal governments to strengthen their relationship.
