KOTA KINABALU – The new cabinet is an action-oriented team capable of dealing with economic challenges during the pandemic, said Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor.

He said people have high expectations for the new cabinet and hopes that the new team can now focus on Covid-19 issues and economic recovery.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today named two ministers and four deputy ministers from Sabah.

The two ministers are Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili and Datuk Ronald Kiandee, both retaining the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak affairs) and agriculture and food industries minister posts, respectively.

Hajiji said the reappointment of Ongkili and Kiandee to their previous positions will allow them to continue what they have set out to accomplish.

“The Sabah government will be working very closely with Ongkili in pursuing all matters pertaining to Sabah rights as enshrined in pre-independence documents such as the IGC Report and Malaysia Agreement 1963,” he said in a statement today.

Hajiji also said Kiandee’s portfolio is crucial to help the Sabah government achieve its Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya development plan, in which agriculture is a key component.

The four deputy ministers from Sabah are: Jonathan Yassin (deputy home minister II), Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup (deputy works minister II) as well as two new faces, Yamani Hafez Musa (deputy finance minister II) and Datuk Mohamad Alamin (deputy education minister II).

“Although Yamani Hafez and Mohamad Alamin are new, I am confident in their ability and capability to succeed in their respective duties,” he said. – The Vibes, August 27, 2021
