KOTA KINABALU – Sabah recorded its highest Covid-19 death toll today, with 41 people dying due to the infection.
The Sabah Health Department reported that the state capital here recorded 19 deaths – five in Sandakan, four each in Penampang and Keningau, three each in Beaufort and Lahad Datu, two in Tenom, and one in Kalabakan.
The Sabah Disaster Management Committee did not release further details on the deaths.
Covid-19 cases in the state still remain high with 3,010 cases.
According to Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, the number of symptomatic cases have increased by 31.4%, while close contacts remain the main contributor of today’s statistics, with 59.2% of the total, or 1,782 cases.
While, 61% or 1,901 cases are backlogged cases, for which test results were released today after being in the lab for between two and five days.
“A total of 2,943 or 97.77% of the patients are in Categories 1 and 2.
“184 cases are under Category 2, which involve those with mild to no symptoms,” he said in a statement tonight.
A total of 56.05% or 1,546,009 individuals in Sabah have received at least one dose while 35.44% or 977,607 individuals are fully vaccinated, he said.
The state also recorded 44 cases involving infants below 1 year old, 234 cases involving children aged between 1 to 5 years old; 571 cases among those aged between 6 and 17 years old, 1,918 cases in those aged between 18 and 59, and 243 cases involving those 60 and above. – The Vibes, August 27, 2021
