KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong has announced that driving schools will be permitted to resume operations from Thursday.
The transport minister, in a Facebook post today, said the examination to obtain a driving licence is allowed to be conducted starting September 17.
“This is to allow driving institutes and the Road Transport Department to manage any issues that candidates may face.”
He said the National Security Council has stipulated the following rules to be observed by driving schools:
- Full adherence to National Recovery Plan standard operating procedures;
- Employees, including teaching staff, and candidates must be fully vaccinated against Covid-19; and,
- Operations are to resume based on the percentage of vaccinated staff.
“If 40% of a driving school’s employees have been vaccinated, the institute may operate at 60% of its current staffing capacity,” said Wee.
“With 60% vaccinated, a driving school can operate at 80% staffing capacity. Operations with 100% staffing can resume if 80% of staff have been vaccinated.”
Those living in areas under the enhanced movement control order, individuals with symptoms, and persons under surveillance and quarantine are not allowed to enter driving school premises.
Wee said the usual requirements, including temperature checks, MySejahtera check-in, the use of masks, and social distancing, apply to driving school operations.
He also said the ministry will grant a three-month moratorium until November 30 on the renewal of driving school permits whose expiry falls between January and this month. – The Vibes, September 7, 2021
