GEORGE TOWN – The long arm of the law caught up with a couple who have been quietly planting cannabis on the balcony of their condominium in Air Itam here for five months.
Northeast district police chief Soffian Santong said the man, 38, and his wife, 36, have been remanded six days to assist in investigations into the case under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Besides two potted cannabis plants, police also found 167.12g of harvested cannabis worth RM8,350 and 12.61g of syabu worth RM1,261.
“The two cannabis trees measuring 40cm and 19cm worth RM1,180 were on the balcony of the condominium.
“The male suspect said he was just experimenting in planting some used cannabis,” Soffian told a press conference today, adding both husband and wife tested positive for cannabis.
Woman claims robbed, raped on jog in Penang
A 24-year-old foreign woman was alleged to have been robbed and raped while jogging at Tg Tokong, George Town, here last Sunday.
Northeast district police chief Soffian Santong said the victim alleged she was hit on her head while jogging at 7.30pm, causing her to fall and faint.
“Upon regaining consciousness, the victim found herself in some nearby bushes. Her mobile phone was also missing.
“The victim was taken to Penang Hospital for treatment and a police report was lodged at 4.30am on Monday,” he said.
An initial medical report revealed there were no tear marks in the woman’s genital area but police are awaiting the complete report.
700 vehicles screened in Op Obstacles
A total of 768 vehicles were screened by the Penang Road Transport Department (RTD) in a joint operation with other agencies in Op Obstacles yesterday.
Of the total, 398 summonses were issued under the Road Transport Act 1987 for various traffic offences.
The operation, conducted between 5pm and 11pm at the Juru toll plaza, involved 45 RTD personnel, 13 Malaysian Highway Authority officers and two Occupational Safety And Health Department personnel.
The RTD said in a statement the operation was aimed at checking vehicles prone to dropping objects, such as wood and metal, creating road hazards.
A total of 38 drivers were summoned for not having a valid driving licence, tinted glass in excess of the RTD’s permissible limit (21), unauthorised number plates (21) and lorry overloading (15). – The Vibes, September 15, 2021
