KUANTAN – Forty-eight houses and eight shops were destroyed in a fire in Kg Baru Cina Karak, Bentong, near here yesterday.
There was no report of casualties in the blaze, which broke out at 9.10pm, said Pahang Fire and Rescue Department director Wan Mohammad Zaidi Wan Isa.
He said the department received a distress call at 9.20pm, and 52 firemen in 10 engines were deployed.
It is believed that the fire spread quickly due to the houses being close to one another, he told Bernama, adding that the flames were brought under control shortly past midnight.
He said investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and losses incurred. – Bernama, October 2, 2021
