KUANTAN – The Pahang government has agreed to gazette an additional 780.94ha of land in Maran and Kuantan as water catchment areas, said Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.
He said this involves 443.73ha of the Berkelah Permanent Forest Reserve in Maran and 337.21ha of the Lepar Permanent Forest Reserve here.
The matter was decided at the state exco meeting on Wednesday as part of efforts to preserve the environment, he said in a statement today.
“Overall, 343,503.35ha of land in Pahang has been gazetted as water catchment areas.”
He said development projects are not allowed on such land.
At present, the state has 1.59 million hectares of permanent forest reserves. – Bernama, October 2, 2021
