JOHOR BARU – The Johor Baru High Courts (Civil) and Subordinate Courts (Civil) at Bangunan MSC Cyberport will temporarily cease operations after two of its court interpreters tested positive for Covid-19.

In a circular posted on the Johor Bar Committee website, it said both individuals were confirmed to be positive of the virus today after undergoing screening.

Johor Bar chairman Shahareen Begum Abdul Subhan urged bar members who have come in contact with the two interpreters to also undergo Covid-19 swab tests, as a precautionary measure.

She added that the court director would be contacting the Health Ministry for further directives and to have the premises sanitised.

Previously, in a separate circular dated October 27, the court had allowed those in close contact with one of the interpreters – who at that time was not confirmed to be positive – at level 25 of the High Court to postpone cases that are to be held on the next day.

“All cases will be postponed unless there are orders from the judge for the case to carry on,” Shahareen had said in the circular.

Shahareen added that level 23 of the premises, which houses the Johor Baru sessions and magistrate courts, was also ordered to close for one-day, with cases to be vacated and a new date fixed in the future. - The Vibes, October 29, 2020
