GEORGE TOWN – Penangites are horrified to find out via social media a gruesome death of a man, in what is believed to be a suicide last night.
The man apparently slit his throat with a sharp object last night before passers-by stumbled upon a foul stench earlier this morning.
When they looked into a parked car in the area, they were stunned to see a person slumped over the driver’s seat, covered in blood.
The car was parked at a hypermarket in E-Gate here.
They alerted emergency services, and firemen were the first on the scene.
A state Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson confirmed the incident, adding that police were later called in to initiate investigations.
This comes on the heels of a 33-year-old man whose body was found drifting in the Penang Channel, after he was believed to have fallen off the Penang Bridge two days ago.
State exco Chong Eng urged the federal and state authorities to intensify awareness campaigns to give hope to those suffering from deep depression.
The pandemic has caused all kinds of mental torture on society and the symptoms have started to show, sometimes in the demoralising way of alleged suicides.
Helplines are inadequate, what society needs to do is to become kinder, drop the apathy attitude, and be more involved in the lives of their neighbours and relatives, said Chong Eng, who oversees the women and family development portfolios.
She also urged the media to accord more space in the battle to address mental health issues, by constantly promoting that help is available for the despondent. – The Vibes, October 30, 2021
