MELAKA – Rumours of Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof’s departure from Bersatu have been greatly exaggerated as he reaffirmed his loyalty today.
Clad in a Bersatu-red baju Melayu, the Alor Gajah MP denied all tattle of him switching parties in a press conference at his operation room here today.
“Whatever it is, I want to deny whatever others are saying – that I am no longer in the party, or rumours of me leaving the party. It is all untrue. It’s all just being widely touted by certain quarters.
“But I want to stress today that I am still in the leadership of Bersatu.”
There were speculations that Redzuan was not part of Bersatu’s election machinery here, leading to whispers that he is leaving the party.
Redzuan is currently a Bersatu supreme council member.
Meanwhile, Redzuan – who is also known as Pak Wan – said he is confident that Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidates contesting in state seats under the Alor Gajah constituency will gain victory in the Melaka polls.
The candidates comprise Zamzuri Arifin who will be contesting in Rembia, Tai Siong Jiul (Machap Jaya), and Dhanesh Basil (Asahan).
“My strength is focused on being someone responsible in Alor Gajah, especially on the victory of the three state seats.
“I can predict that under the Alor Gajah (constituency), we can secure three seats.”
He said it all comes down to the voters’ turnout rate on polling day.
“During GE14 (the 14th general election), we could observe that there was a slim majority. If we cooperate with the state machinery, it could give a big win to PN.”
However, should PN manage to garner a majority in the state polls, it does not guarantee that the coalition will be able to form a government in Melaka.
The Melaka election is held following the dissolution of the state assembly on October 4, after four assemblymen withdrew support for former chief minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.
The Election Commission has fixed November 20 for voting, yesterday for nominations, and early voting on November 16. – The Vibes, November 9, 2021
