KUALA LUMPUR – Former Islamic affairs minister Mujahid Yusof Rawa said he was questioned for over an hour at Bukit Aman this evening, after police summoned him for a remark he had made in March.
The Amanah vice-president said he reached the police headquarters at approximately 5.30pm today before questioning began at 6pm, and ended at 7.30pm.
"I am investigated under the Sedition Act and the SKMM (MCMC – Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) for a speech I made in March in Parit Buntar," he said in a post on Twitter.
"Has the Sedition Act returned ferociously?"
Several news reports had indicated Mujahid being roped in by the police over a statement he allegedly made in questioning the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah's decision to appoint Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister earlier this year.
Speaking to assembled media after the questioning, Mujahid said he had given full cooperation to the police, and hoped the investigation would run smoothly.
His lawyer Noorazmir Zakaria said the investigations were carried out under Section 505 of the Penal Code, Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. – The Vibes, November 2, 2020.
