MIRI – Caretaker Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg made clear that Malayan political parties should stay out of the Sarawak election because they are not welcomed.
“Stay out of the state election. Leave Sarawak to us. We Sarawakians know how to run the state. We don’t want Malaya politics to end up in Sarawak.”
Speaking during the launch of the RM90 million City Hall complex at Miri Marina Bay this morning, Johari said Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) knows how to manage the state.
“We know Sarawak better than anyone else. Look at Malaya, they have had three prime ministers in the past few years. We don’t want our politics to end up like that.”
Meanwhile, Johari said he is glad to note that Miri still has economic potential as the oil capital of Sarawak.
He, however, said the local political scene in Miri must remain stable.
“Miri still has good prospects for petroleum investment, but it must be politically stable. Shell will not come if Miri is politically unstable. I have spoken to Shell’s top management, and they want to set up more investments here.
“But if Miri is politically unstable, who will come?”
Sarawak is preparing for state polls following the dissolution of the legislative assembly on November 3.
The Election Commission has 60 days from that date to hold the polls.
Miri Mayor Adam Yii earlier said the city hall building will serve as a new landmark for the area.
The council will strive to serve the 350,000-strong population here with the opening of the new building, he added. – The Vibes, November 15, 2021
