KOTA KINABALU – The iconic Prince Philip Park will be retained under a new masterplan to develop the Tg Aru beach.
Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the state government will continue with the Tg Aru Eco Development (TAED), adding that there are already several investors interested in the beachfront project.
“The Sabah government will restart TAED with a new concept and masterplan, involving mixed commercial developments like hotels, resorts, and recreational spaces.
“At the same time, the development of TAED includes upgrading the beach and retaining Prince Philip Park, which has been a famous spot since the 70s.
“When it is completed, TAED will be an international tourist destination with a vibrant lifestyle for Kota Kinabalu and Sabah,” he said during the question-and-answer session at the state assembly sitting recently.
He was responding to a question posed by Usukan assemblyman Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak on strategies to weather the state’s economic slowdown.
Hajiji said participation of small businesses will be prioritised in the development, noting that TAED has had a huge economic impact on the state during its construction – and will continue to do so upon its completion.
Meanwhile on boosting tourism and investments in the state, Hajiji said a commerce and tourism liaison office will be opened in Singapore to promote Sabah in the island republic.
He said the office will begin operations early next year, and will serve to improve bilateral ties between Sabah and Singapore as well.
On the relocation of Indonesia’s capital city to Kalimantan, Hajiji said a 2,023ha piece of land has been allocated for the development of a township along the Serudong-Simanggaris border.
He said Sabah will also take part in the Dubai Expo 2020 this month to explore commerce and investment potentials, adding that the state will promote its flagship industrial parks there, among others. – The Vibes, December 6, 2021
