MIRI – Gabungan Parti Sarawak candidate for the Dudong state constituency Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has denied claims that he is giving out thousands of ringgit in cash to individuals and longhouse folk to vote for him in the upcoming polls.
Tiong, who is also president of Progressive Democratic Party, today took to social media to deny rumours of the alleged cash handout.
“I was shocked to learn about these allegations.
“Even the longhouse folk are asking me about these talks of cash handouts from myself.
“Certain people are spreading messages through social media that I am giving cash to everyone I meet.
“The allegation is that I am giving RM500 cash to each individual voter plus RM1,000 cash to every longhouse bilik.
“These messages are false. They are attempts to smear my image,” he said.
Tiong, who is Bintulu MP, said he does not need to give handouts to win votes.
“Those constituents who know me will testify that I work hard and serve the rakyat, not win by buying votes,” he said.
Tiong said he won five parliamentary elections in Bintulu due to his service to the rakyat there.
He is facing seven other opponents for the Dudong seat including DAP, Parti Bumi Kenyalang, Parti Aspirasi, Parti Sarawak Bersatu, Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru, and two independent candidates. – The Vibes, December 10, 2021
