MIRI – Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has been criticised for their lackadaisical performance in the Dewan Rakyat and federal cabinet.
DAP deputy secretary-general Teresa Kok claimed that GPS’ MPs are too afraid to speak up against oppressive policies by federal ministers who are the coalition’s partners.
Kok, who is Seputeh MP, is in Sarawak to campaign for the 12th state election.
She held a walkabout in Sibu town in central Sarawak this morning where she told reporters that GPS’ MPs failed to speak up against their partners from Umno, Bersatu or PAS.
“Recently, the ministers from the ruling government created controversies over the name of a whiskey brand and also created disputes over alcohol and beer licensing and sales.
“None of the GPS’ MPs dared to raise their voices.
“GPS’ MPs are not only present in the Dewan Rakyat in big numbers (18 MPs), they also hold many ministerial posts in the federal cabinet.
“Sad to say they are ineffective in voicing out on issues of concerns or standing up for the rights of the rakyat,” she said.
Kok urged Sarawakians to vote for DAP candidates come December 18, saying that the party’s MPs and state representatives have been daring in speaking out against oppressive policies by the ruling regimes.
“DAP representatives will hold GPS accountable for the many issues affecting the people of Sarawak,” Kok said, adding that Sarawakians need more representatives who can defend them.
Sarawak DAP is contesting in 26 seats including those in the Sibu district of Bawang Assan, Dudong and Bukit Assek. – The Vibes, December 11, 2021
