KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today recorded 1,009 new Covid-19 cases today as of noon, said the Health Ministry, with cumulative infections at 36,434.
There are six new deaths, bringing the toll to 277.
Meanwhile, there are 10,503 active cases with 78 in intensive care and 28 on ventilator support.
There are also 839 recovered cases and total recoveries are at 25,654.
Of the 1,009 cases, nine were imported and the rest are local transmission cases.
The nine imported cases involved four Malaysians and five foreigners returning from India, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, South Korea, Nigeria, South Africa, Mexico and Cambodia.
For the local transmission cases, Sabah still tops the list with 564, followed by Selangor (177), Penang (36), Negri Sembilan (90), Kuala Lumpur (14), Labuan (92), Perak (6), Johor (2), Sarawak (6), Kedah (7), Melaka (5), and Putrajaya (1).
Five new clusters were also identified today – Sutera, Ria-30, Tamar, Intan and Danau.
Meanwhile, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the decision to announce conditional movement control order (CMCO) does not rely solely on zoning, but on risk evaluation of the areas.
“We look at logistics, infection rates and other factors before deciding to put certain areas under CMCO or enhanced MCO,” he said during his daily briefing today.
He said for example, Selangor has been put under CMCO before its districts turn red. Red means there are more than 40 Covid-19 positive cases in that area.
"We are taking a proactive and preemptive step by making calculated steps before we expect the number of cases to rise in Selangor," he said.
He also said this is the same reason why Parit Buntar in Perak, Jimah in Port Dickson and Rasau in Terengganu are placed under CMCO today.
He said the ministry is prepared to tackle Covid-19 compared to in March, and the number of Covid-19 cases is within expectations.
However, the ministry is trying to prevent a dramatic increase in new Covid-19 cases. – The Vibes, November 5, 2020
