KUALA LUMPUR – Only eight units in Blocks 60/62 of Kondominium Seri Duta 1 here have been evacuated, even as the remaining residents have been advised by the Fire and Rescue Department to find temporary lodging elsewhere.
The condominium management committee told The Vibes that most of the residents are staying temporarily with family and friends given the safety issues with their building.
“There is also a support group to help find temporary accommodation while this gets sorted, but it is too early to put a timeline on the required repair works.”
The committee added that it is cooperating with the property manager and relevant authorities to address soil movement on the hill slope surrounding the property.
It said that precautions and mitigation measures have been taken to avoid any more damage.
“The complex is being monitored by Institut Kerja Raya Malaysia (Ikram) and our contractors daily. Stabilisation work will soon commence with the safety of our residents remaining a main priority.”
Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has also given the Kondominium Seri Duta 1 management committee 30 days from December 21 to appoint a registered engineer to carry out inspection works on the building and its surrounding areas.
According to a letter sighted by The Vibes, DBKL said inspection must adhere to Section 83 of the Roads, Drains, & Buildings Act 1974, and the committee has to repair all building defects and put up a fence around it for safety purposes.
“A site investigation was conducted on December 19 by our officers at the buildings of block 60 and 62 of Kondominium Seri Duta 1. We found that the building and anything attached to it unsafe for anyone residing or passers-by at the street adjacent to the building,” said DBKL.
Widely shared photos of the residential block in Taman Duta recently have concerned the public, even though the residents have left the property.
Meanwhile, Sentul OCPD Beh Eng Lai was quoted by The Star as saying that three water diversions have been installed near the condominium.
“The condominium is at the lowest level of the surrounding area and water flow was concentrated in the area. It eroded the soil, and water diversions are needed to channel water away from the site of the landslide,” he said at a press conference today.
He added that police will be checking on the slope every two hours.
Today, two lorries were seen unloading materials meant for slope strengthening works.
The landslip on December 18 resulted in residents from 34 units in four blocks being evacuated on the same day.
Property manager Henry Butcher Malaysia has declined to comment on the matter.
Yesterday, it was reported that Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said that Ikram and DBKL would discuss a solution with the residents.
46 landslide locations have been reported as of yesterday in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, with nine of them categorised as critical.
Based on the Northeast Monsoon Landslide Incident report, nine critical landslides occurred in Kg Palimbayan in Sg Penchala and Taman Duta in Seri Duta.
Other affected areas in Selangor were Taman Nusa, Subang; Teratai Apartment, Selayang; Jalan Bunga Anggerik, Taman Melawati; Jalan Melati 7, Taman Seri Melati; Kg Sepakat, Batu 16, Rawang; Jalan Saidina Hamzah, Kg Bukit Sg Puteh, Ampang; and Jalan Haji Abdul Latif, Kg Bukit Kapar. – The Vibes, December 27, 2021
