KUALA LUMPUR – Questionable circulars being shared on social media indicating the supposed closure of 58 roads within the city centre tomorrow have prompted police to call for a press conference this afternoon presumably to clarify the matter.
The circulars, which surfaced a day before an anti-Tan Sri Azam Baki rally is planned to take place around the Sogo shopping complex, are expected to be the topic of discussion at the press conference slated for 3.30pm.
Dang Wangi district police chief Noor Dellhan Yahaya, who sent out the digital invites himself, will head the press conference.
Last night, a statement issued by the Arrest Azam Baki Action Committee noted several postings on social media that showed a list of roads within the city centre set to be closed off to traffic tomorrow.
Several tweets accompanied by graphics and charts listing out the supposed closures have also gone viral since.

The roads listed for closure include major veins into the city such as Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Pudu, Jalan Hang Tuah, exits along the stretch of Jalan Kuching, Jalan Kinabalu, Jalan Munshi Abdullah, and Jalan Dang Wangi where Sogo is located.
The statement issued by the committee claimed these roads will be closed from 11am tomorrow, just as the rally begins to gain traction with political party wings and civil society groups declaring their support.
Calling such closures as unreasonable, the committee then prompted answers from police if such drastic actions are really being done in the interest of curbing pushback against the embattled chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
“Such lockdowns, with the intention to save someone who has triggered many questions around the whole country, are unreasonable.
“To ensure the safety of everyone that will attend, and to ensure continuity of the Arrest Azam Baki rally, we call for the Royal Malaysia Police to verify the authenticity of this directive which will indirectly stop the rally from taking place, or is it the work of irresponsible parties?” the statement said.
