KOTA KINABALU – Warisan welcomed several Peninsular Malaysia political leaders from various parties into its fold last night, signalling the Sabah-based party’s intentions to make inroads on the peninsula.
In addition to Teratai assemblyman Bryan Lai, others confirmed to have joined Warisan include Datuk Seri S. Sunther (son of former MIC deputy president Datuk Seri S. Subramaniam), former Batu Lanchang assemblyman Datuk Danny Law Heng Kiang and former Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi.
Additionally, former Kukup assemblyman Suhaimi Salleh also joined the party during the ceremony last night.
Suhaimi is from Umno, while Lai, Law and Ooi were from DAP.
Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the expansion of his party to the peninsula was aimed at bringing change in Malaysia, away from the racial and religious politics put forth by the presently dominant political alliances in the country, namely Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan.
“I have worked with all these alliances and they keep on saying they would bring about reforms in Malaysia.
“Have they done this? Are they successful? But this is the time for us from East Malaysia to bring about our brand of politics, as the true Malaysian unity and culture comes from these parts of Malaysia,” said Shafie during the Warisan Night event held at Hakka Hall here, last night.
Warisan spread its wings to Peninsular Malaysia on December 17, with Shafie noting that his party had been well received by Malaysians there.
In his speech, Sunther said it was time for the country to do away with race and religion in politics.
Meanwhile, Lai, who left DAP last year following allegations of an extramarital affair, said Warisan is a truly moderate and multiracial party. – The Vibes, January 23, 2022
