GEORGE TOWN – Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow is currently undergoing self-quarantine after being found to have come in close contact with a Covid-19 positive individual while attending a function here last Saturday evening.
He was directed by the state Health Department to undergo self-quarantine for five days. His home quarantine started yesterday.
He will be going for an RT-PCR test tomorrow, as advised by the department.
Chow has already undergone RTK-Ag tests yesterday and today. Results from both tests turned out negative.
Other individuals who were present at the event held in a school have been identified as close contacts and will undergo quarantine as well.
Meanwhile, the department is also now actively conducting contact tracing to prevent the spread of infection.
Those concerned will be contacted by the department from time to time for further action.
The last time Chow was instructed to go on self-quarantine was in July after one of his officers tested positive for Covid-19.
He then had to miss a Parliament sitting because of an order by the state Health Department.
Penang reported 206 fresh Covid-19 cases yesterday, with a positivity rate of 2.5%.
There were 8,095 tests conducted in the state yesterday. Of the total, 6,873 were RTK-Ag tests and 1,222 per RT-PCR. – The Vibes, January 24, 2022
