KUALA LUMPUR – The Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition has initiated talks today to finalise the seat distribution that will be contested by its component parties for the upcoming Johor polls.
Amanah communications director Khalid Abdul Samad confirmed negotiations will involve the newly registered Muda, as well as Warisan and Pejuang.
“Today’s discussion focused on seat vacancies, which is a major issue that needs to be resolved immediately,” he told Getaran, The Vibes’ Bahasa Malaysia sister portal.
For Johor PH, Khalid said, DAP had 14 seats, Amanah and PKR had 12 each, and Bersatu had 18.
“As Bersatu has left PH, the extra seats will be distributed among either PH component parties or other parties such as Muda, Warisan and Pejuang,” he said.
Last night, Johor Amanah deputy chairman Dzulkefly Ahmad reportedly said the participation of Muda, Pejuang and Warisan remains crucial for the coalition’s victory in the state election.
He said the involvement of the relatively new parties will not only provide a different dynamic in the Johor PH coalition, but will ensure stiff competition against the Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalitions.
Dzulkefly had also expressed his confidence that the cooperation with Muda, Pejuang and Warisan, as well as the participation of young candidates, would help improve PH’s performance in the election.
Commenting further, Khalid said the discussion will reach a definitive precise consensus to ensure that PH can retake several contested seats.
When asked about the coalition’s preparations in facing the election, Khalid said his party will ensure the candidates it features are eligible.
The state election is being held following the dissolution of the state assembly after Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Sultan assented to the move on Sunday. – The Vibes, January 26, 2022
