KUALA LUMPUR – More development projects, which not only involve infrastructure, but also economic and human capital development, can be implemented in rural areas with the RM10.19 billion allocated to the Rural Development Ministry under Budget 2021, said its minister, Datuk Dr Abd Latiff Ahmad.

He said this could further support socio-economic development, as well as create a much more prosperous living environment for the rural community as outlined in the Rural Development Policy 2030.

“The total allocation to the ministry includes RM3.533 billion for management and RM6.657 billion in development allocation, and the amount is RM431 million or 4.42% higher than the allocation made for 2020.

“The allocation can be considered huge, especially in the current economic situation with the country still affected by Covid-19," he said in a statement today.

He said the ministry would ensure that the allocation is spent on programmes or projects for the well-being of the rural population.

“The ministry will continue to ensure that what has been planned will be carried out smoothly and effectively for the benefit of the people, especially those who were hard-hit by Covid-19."

He said the Orang Asli community was also included, with an allocation of RM236.2 million for infrastructure, economic and human capital development to empower the community. – Bernama, November 8, 2020
