KOTA KINABALU – Embattled politician Datuk Peter Anthony’s plan to have his newly formed Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) party joining the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has gained one supporter from the government.
Sabah Star president Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan said he believes Anthony’s expressed interest to join GRS would do good for the ruling Sabah political alliance.
“We (GRS) have not discussed this yet. But I hope we can do it sooner. I believe there’s good in KDM joining GRS.
“It could further strengthen the government and also unite the political leaders in Sabah,” said the Keningau MP when met at a press conference here today.
Anthony, who is facing charges in court for forgery, announced on February 21 the formation of his KDM party.
After the planned launch of the new political organisation on March 13, he had stated its intention to apply to join GRS.
GRS friendly Parti Bersatu Sabah has already expressed reservations about KDM’s plans, saying GRS must first settle its own affairs such as formalising the unregistered Sabah coalition, before accepting any new members.
Jeffrey himself expressed similar sentiments previously, saying Anthony, who was a former Warisan vice-president, should not have formed another party in Sabah.
This comes in view that there are already many parties in the state, especially seeing that Sabah-based parties are already dividing the voters in the state, specifically, the KadazanDusun Murut ethnic groups. – The Vibes, February 25, 2022
