KUALA LUMPUR – Three of the four Selangor water treatment plants have recorded an odour pollution level of 4 TON (threshold odour number) while Rantau Panjang is still at 8 TON, said Air Selangor.
In a statement today, Air Selangor said the four plants have been shut following an announcement by Selangor Water Authority (Luas) on pollution detection.
“Until 2.30pm today, pollutants detected at the intake area at the Rantau Panjang water treatment plant was at 8 TON, while Sg Selangor Phase 1, 2, and 3 recorded 4 TON.”
Less than a month ago, more than one million residents in the Klang Valley went without water for several days.
Some 1,279 affected areas are in the districts of Kuala Lumpur, Petaling, Klang, Shah Alam, Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Kuala Langat.
Efforts are currently in place to dilute the solvent by releasing 300 million litres of water per day from the Sg Selangor dam, and 500 million litres per day from the Sg Tinggi dam.
“Luas will also be releasing raw water from the KL Larut reservoir at 192 million litres of water per day for the same purpose,” said Air Selangor..
Air Selangor has yet to announce the resumption of water supply.
The Vibes has made attempts to contact Selangor Environment, Green Technology and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Hee Loy Sian, and Environment and Water Minister Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man for comments.
On October 19, Tuan Ibrahim said the federal government would increase the number of riverside reservoirs to ensure Klang Valley has a second water source in the event of a supply disruption.
Hee also announced that the Selangor government will be leasing four drones to monitor water sources in the state.
