JOHOR BARU – Volunteers under the Undi18 initiative have already collected over 5,000 postal ballots from Singapore.
According to volunteer Mandeep Singh, the ballots were all transferred via bus using the vaccinated travel lane (VTL) between Singapore and Johor Baru.
Today, around 1,021 ballots arrived at the Larkin Bus Terminal at around 2pm.
Speaking to the press, Mandeep explained that there are 39 volunteers working in Singapore to collect the ballots from Johor voters there.
“I would like to remind you all that we are not from the Election Commission (EC).
“In fact, this work should be done by the EC, or at least they should make it easy for voters to cast their ballots in our diplomatic office in Singapore,” Mandeep said.
He said that the postal votes would be brought to the Undi18 office to be sorted before being sent over to the relevant EC personnel.
Mandeep assured that the ballots will arrive at the right places at the right time.
He said Undi18 hopes to achieve its target of bringing over at least 7,800 postal votes across the border, adding that some of the voters have already mailed in their ballots as well.
Also speaking to the press was volunteer Mohd Hafeez A. Jez who helped bring over the 1,021 ballots today.
Hafeez said that he and his team of volunteers have already brought in more than 5,000 postal ballots.
“I do not see what I am doing as a burden but as a responsibility to make the voting process easier for voters.
“I took this opportunity and I am happy to do it as this is the first time votes came through the VTL via bus,” Hafeez told press at the Larkin bus terminal today. – The Vibes, March 10, 2022
