KUALA LUMPUR – In the spirit of neighbourly love, Tourism Malaysia yesterday urged netizens to “take a Singapoliday” – a post inspired by a Burger King UK ad calling on consumers to order from other fast-food chains.
“Just like Burger King never thought they’d be promoting a Big Mac, we, too, never thought we’d be asking you to do this,” said the tourism agency.
“We would never have imagined encouraging you to spend your holidays in Singapore, but our friends in the tourism industry could use your support at the moment.
“While we dream of soaking up the sun on Pulau Redang, Sentosa is just as good for now.”
The post got plenty of praise, and a quick response from the Singapore Tourism Board.
“Thanks for the love, Tourism Malaysia. Thinking of you, too – stay safe and keep well. (Written on the sandy shores of Sentosa while remembering the awesome times on Pulau Redang).”
In a heart-warming reply, Tourism Malaysia posted three emojis: the Malaysian flag, a heart and a Singaporean flag.
Burger King UK, in a November 2 tweet, urged customers to “Order from McDonald’s” or any of the “sister food chains (fast or not so fast)”.
