KUALA TERENGGANU – Construction of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project in Terengganu has progressed by 27.86% as of March, said Malaysia Rail Link (MRL) Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak.
He said that the high-impact project is currently running smoothly and according to the set schedule as a result of the state government’s support and good commitment.
“The land acquisition process for the construction of the main ECRL line from Setiu to Kemaman has been fully completed in terms of gazetting, while the hearing is underway in the Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, and Kuala Terengganu districts.
“Alhamdulillah, the development of the project has been very good from all aspects and we really hope for cooperation from all parties for the project to run smoothly,” he said at an iftar event with MRL Sdn Bhd here last night.
Apart from that, according to him, the construction of six ECRL stations in Jertih, Bandar Permaisuri, Kuala Terengganu, Kemasik, Dungun, and Chukai is also scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
He said the construction of the Jertih, Bandar Permaisuri, Kuala Terengganu and Kemasik stations is specially for the use of passengers, while Dungun and Chukai were for cargo.
“We expect the construction work of the stations to be completed by mid-2024, with system work after that. It will be followed by a testing process before the full operation of the ECRL in January 2027,” he said. – Bernama, April 14, 2022
