KUALA LUMPUR – A date has been set for the highly anticipated debate between former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, over the financially troubled oil and gas firm Sapura Energy Bhd.
In a Facebook post, Selangor Barisan Nasional information chief Isham Jalil said the exact date and other related matters will be announced in a joint press conference held either tomorrow or the day after.
Last week, PKR deputy presidential hopeful Rafizi Ramli challenged Najib to a debate over the embattled Sapura Energy, a public-listed company backed by state-owned Perbadanan Nasional Bhd (PNB).
Najib subsequently accepted the challenge, on condition that Anwar, who is PKR president, also take part.
Sapura Energy’s financial woes recently came under the spotlight, with the firm’s requirement for further financial aid raising questions on whether PNB, which is also in charge of funds like Amanah Saham Bumiputera, would have to pump in further funds. – The Vibes, April 15, 2022
