BUTTERWORTH – Debates during Dewan Rakyat sittings should not descend into chaos just because of the government’s slim majority, said Datuk Shabudin Yahaya.
The deputy minister in the Prime Minister’s Department urged lawmakers to have good etiquette and not be governed by emotions, saying they are representing the electorate, and not just their political parties.
“Debate constructively and find the means to best represent voters, especially when it comes to addressing their needs.
“There is a limit to partisan politics, as the running of the government is a daily duty. The government should not stop just because there is a political rift.
“The public is watching how MPs behave and the words they use,” said the Tasek Gelugor MP when asked to comment on the arguments that erupted in Parliament recently, which resulted in Jelutong’s R.S.N. Rayer being booted out of the House for clashing with Bintulu’s Tiong King Sing.
“To me, every MP should behave in Parliament. Use Parliament rules and regulations as guidelines. Also, common sense should prevail.”
Shabudin, who is also a National Security Council (NSC) member, urged the public to adhere to the standard operating procedures to combat Covid-19.
