Immigration officers among 13 remanded for allegedly falsifying border stamps

JOHOR BARU – The magistrates’ court today issued a seven-day remand order for 13 people, as prosecutors investigate the alleged falsification of border entry stamps.

Nine of those remanded are believed to be Immigration Department personnel, while the four others are suspected agents.

They are all between the ages of 35 and 45.

Assistant registrar Mohammad Salehuddin Abd Sani issued the order to remand the 13 until November 23, after allowing an application by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) senior deputy public prosecutor Mahadi Abd Jumaat.

An MACC source told Bernama that the syndicate is believed to have been in operation since at least 2017, with the Immigration Department personnel allegedly receiving bribes of between RM100 and RM500 for each passport stamped.

The immigration personnel were represented by lawyer S. Bharathi, while the four civilians were represented by counsel Noordin Hussein, Baharudin Baharim and Amarpreet Singh. – Bernama, November 17, 2020
