IPOH – Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu has welcomed DAP’s proposal for the Gerik by-election to be held uncontested, following the death of Umno MP Datuk Hasbullah Osman on Monday.

Faizal, who is also Perak menteri besar, said following the rise in Covid-19 cases in the country, it would be better if campaigning did not take place so as to avoid a further surge.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng made the proposal yesterday, saying it was in recognition of the late parliamentarian’s contributions to the constituency.

When asked whether Bersatu would field a candidate in the Gerik by-election, Faizal said discussions on the matter will be held with Umno and PAS before a decision is made. – Bernama, November 18, 2020
