KUALA LUMPUR – A joint operation between the police and the National Anti-Drug Agency (Nada) aimed at weeding out drug offenders in the capital and Selangor has led to the bust of a marijuana distributing syndicate, along with 17.3kg of the drug.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said three alleged syndicate members – two men and a woman aged 24 to 31, all locals – were detained during the Ops Igor raid on Friday, along with RM43,200 worth of the drug.

“We believe a local man headed the group, and allegedly distributed the drugs in locations in both Kuala Lumpur and Selangor,” he said in a statement today

He added that the seized drugs could have satiated up to 34,000 users.

He said police also seized RM4,550 in cash, a Honda CRV sport utility vehicle, and jewellery worth around RM15,000 from the suspects.

The three suspects have been initially remanded until tomorrow. If convicted, they face the death penalty under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 (DDA).

Azmi also said, during another joint operation called Ops Tapis Khas in the capital and Putrajaya from June 21 to 23, a total of 229 people were arrested for various offences.

He said checks the joint operations focused on several identified hotspots popular with users; public neighbourhoods within vicinities of Chow Kit, and at least six public housing projects.

Azmi said among the arrested, action was later taken against 11 individuals under the DDA’s Special Preventive Measures. Another 21 people were booked for drug consumption, and 10 more were detained for other drug-related offences. – The Vibes, June 27, 2022.
