KOTA BARU – The Kelantan government will carry out an educational campaign using posters, flyers and the mass media to spread awareness about the new norms and standard operating procedures (SOPs) at 663 temporary flood shelters (PPS).

State welfare, women and family development committee chairman, Datuk Mumtaz Md Nawi, said that every PPS will be manned by around 30 people who have been briefed and undergone a simulation of new normal shelter management.

“The SOP covers regular room sanitation at the PPS which will be done by the Fire and Rescue Services Department and volunteers.”

“A special screening room will be prepared at selected PPS for symptomatic victims, those from the red zone or who have been exposed to someone with Covid-19, while healthcare workers will be stationed at shelters as required,” she said in a statement today.

She said that victims must do a swab test and undergo monitoring for between 24 and 36 hours in an isolation room if negative, as well as undergo 14-day quarantine in a separate tent.

However, if they test positive, they will be transferred to a nearby hospital.

She said that packed food will be provided to those in quarantine.

She said that those who are not infected will be placed in a different block and also provided packed food which can be collected by the heads of each family.

She said flood victims will be given a name tag and required to wear a face mask and use hand sanitiser.

In order to stem the spread of the virus, they will also be advised against going in and out of the PPS.

She said that waste disposal will be managed systematically and toilet cleanliness will be high on the list of priorities.

“To ensure food safety, all the food handlers have been inoculated and all nine committees have been briefed on the new norms,” said Mumtaz. – Bernama, November 18, 2020
