SHAH ALAM – Although Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has not explicitly expressed her comments on the recent PKR election results, it is apparent that the party advisory chairman is disappointed and upset over internal conflicts that followed.
Speaking at the Wanita PKR congress this morning, she could not hold back her tears as she sent a strong message to her party members to steer clear of becoming “musuh dalam selimut” (wolf in sheep’s clothing) regardless of the outcome of the polls.
“This is our party (and) if you want to leave, then leave. Don’t be ‘musuh dalam selimut’ and don’t be ‘api dalam sekam’,” she said as she broke into tears.
“Only God knows my love for the party, there will be winners and losers in any competition, and that is normal.
“I’m used to losing in life but it doesn’t mean I will be an enemy.”
The Pandan MP also cautioned party members, whom she said she thinks of as her siblings and children, to not destroy what has been built over the past two decades.
She admitted that she would rather see such “enemies” quit the party rather than continuing to damage the party from within.
“We are not enemies. We are in the same party. If you want to leave, go ahead. Do not be an enemy from within. Don’t destroy what we have built together.”
Now that the internal polls are over, Wan Azizah called on members to unite again in order to be consistent with the party’s crusade.
Previously, certain quarters within PKR had supposedly called for a forensic audit to be conducted on the original poll, which resulted in a number of changes, the most prominent being the competition for the women’s chief position.
As a result, the PKR election committee overturned the original election result which saw Rodziah Ismail, who is aligned to newly elected deputy president Rafizi, clinching victory, with the forensics audit confirming Senator Fadhlina Sidek as the official winner by a mere 32 votes (0.09%).
Rafizi said he sympathised with Rodziah after her election as women’s chief was overturned by the slimmest of margins, which he said has raised question marks.
He also claimed to have been contacted by several grassroots members nationwide who expressed shock at various result changes at the divisional level, with some physical votes also supposedly removed from the official count.
These inconsistencies, he said, have only tarnished the party’s recent election.
In view of this, Rafizi urged all party members to move on and not be bogged down by the political games instigated by certain losing parties. – The Vibes, July 15, 2022
