KUALA LUMPUR – PKR members should not create camps or internal divisions within the party based on differing support for individual leaders, warns party communications chief Fahmi Fadzil.
Speaking during his winding up speech at the PKR national congress today, he stressed that enemies of the party and opposition coalition Pakatan Harapan (PH) will take advantage of any apparent conflict as a reason to immediately hold the 15th general election (GE15).
Noting that grassroots members should put their complete trust in the newly elected party leadership, he said that party leaders should also be aware of their responsibility to uphold PKR’s image in the minds of the people.
“Since GE15 can happen any time after July 31, there should no longer be any ‘cai’ (preferred lists or camps) cohort system. It should just be the PKR team,” he was quoted as saying by Getaran, The Vibes’ sister portal.
Advising party members to avoid sending incriminating messages through online platforms such as WhatsApp, he expressed his disappointment with some party members who had lodged police reports and filed complaints to the Registrar of Societies regarding the party polls.
“Do not give our enemies the bullets they need. Why would you hand over our necks to our adversaries?” he lamented.
Asserting that PKR rivals are worried about the strength displayed by party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his newly minted deputy president Rafizi Ramli, he said that the duo has the capability to lead the party to victory in GE15.
Fahmi, who is also Lembah Pantai MP, urged party leaders to not sit by idly and instead act proactively against individuals who deliberately cause the party to be perceived in a negative way by the people and allow the party to be attacked.
He said that to ensure PKR is ready to head to the national polls, strict disciplinary action must be dished out to those who slander party leaders.
“The people do not look at positions; they care about what we have done for them.
“We must defend our incumbent seats and win over the seats that once betrayed us,” he said, adding that grassroots members are also looking to party leaders to select strategic seats to ensure Putrajaya is secured. – The Vibes, July 17, 2022
