KUALA LUMPUR – The approval given by the government for inter-district and interstate travel involving green zones starting tomorrow will revive domestic tourism, which has been hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, said Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

The tourism, arts and culture minister said she is confident the decision comes as a relief to operators, such as hotels, tour guides and homestay owners, who have lost their source of income.

She expressed hope that people living in green zones will travel.

“This opportunity should be used as best as possible by industry players, by offering interesting promotions and offers in line with the new normal and SOPs,” she told the Ruang Bicara programme on Bernama TV last night.

Putrajaya yesterday agreed to allow inter-district and interstate travel between green zones.

Following this, said Nancy, tourism SOPs are being updated, with amendments to be made on the advice of the National Security Council.

The new rules are expected to be posted on the ministry’s website this weekend. – Bernama, November 21, 2020
