PUTRAJAYA – The number of live births in the second quarter of 2022 increased by 0.2% from 110,657 births recorded in the second quarter of 2021 to 110,858, according to the Statistics Department’s (DOSM) latest demographic statistics.
DOSM in a statement today said male babies recorded 56,801 births and female babies, 54,057 during the second quarter of 2022.
Selangor recorded the highest number of live births with 22,017 or 19.9% while Labuan had the lowest with 413 births, it said.
DOSM said a total of 46,772 deaths were recorded in the second quarter of 2022, a drop of 6.9% from 50,230 in the second quarter of 2021.
It added that 655 deaths were related to Covid-19, contributing 1.4% of the total number of deaths in the second quarter of 2022.
DOSM also stated that Malaysia’s population was estimated at 32.7 million in the second quarter of 2022, an increase of 0.2% from the second quarter of 2021 at 32.6 million.
Three states with the highest population were Selangor which constituted 21.6%, followed by Johor (12.3%) and Sabah (10.4%). – Bernama, September 8, 2022
