KUALA LUMPUR – Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun has been urged to refer Keningau MP Datuk Jeffrey Kitingan to the Rights and Privileges Committee over the latter’s  “contempt of Parliament”.

Chan Foong Hin (Kota Kinabalu-Pakatan Harapan) today wrote that Jeffrey had gone against the Covid-19 14-day quarantine directive which all Sabah MPs needed to adhere to once they arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

“The Keningau MP attended the Dewan Rakyat (sitting) today despite him attending the Sabah state assembly sitting on November 12, which was 12 days ago.

“This act, breaches the Dewan Rakyat secretary’s directive on October 9 which makes it compulsory for all Sabah MPs who wants to attend the current sitting to quarantine for 14 days

“And so, Keningau must be referred to the Rights and Privileges Committee over his action that can be construed as tantamount to contempt of parliament,” read Chan’s letter that was received by Azhar’s office on the same day.

Jeffrey’s breach of quarantine had earlier today caused a ruckus in Dewan Rakyat with opposition MPs raising it in the House, arguing over possible the practice of double standards.

A representative from the Dewan Rakyat secretariat later provided the written reply, which said Jeffrey has been allowed by the Parliament clinic doctor to attend the sitting.

“He has been given a relief order, after completing his quarantine, from the Health Ministry,” read the written answer. – The Vibes, November 24, 2020
